Control of consciousness determines the quality of life.
— Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Happy Holidays! I hope you are happy and supported and nurtured wherever you are in this time period of the calendar year that marks both the shortest day in the northern hemisphere and the longest in the southern. May your journey into 2017 be filled with joy and wonder.

If you are reading this newsletter I hope that I have had the honor of meeting you along the wandering path of the last year. In a year that took me to Bali, Sri Lanka, Goa, Mallorca, Alaska, Los Angeles, New York, London, Oslo, Milan, Vienna, Santorini, Paros, Los Angeles, Costa Rica, Tallahassee, Sydney, Melbourne, Apollo Bay, Byron Bay, Wellington and back to Bali, I have been holding this singular contemplation: How can I maintain a state of Flow?

Which is why I have chosen for my theme of 2017, simply,  “Flow.”

December marks the second anniversary for Embodied Flow as a School of Yoga. And within its framework, my co-creator Scott Lyons and I have enquired: “How do we create a movement for better movement through life?” We have worked tirelessly for three years forging manuals, unpacking concepts, hashing out ideas, culling practices, and endeavoring to question the status quo in the arenas of training in order to stimulate the yoga conversation and to delve into life’s essential questions. The most essential one being how do we live in a state of flow?

I feel utter excitement and inspiration at what we are curating and by the individuals who have taken this journey along with us. I find myself in longer and longer periods of flow moving from airport to hotel to studio; from place to place, and practice to practice.  Sitting in the deep knowing that we have hit on a vein of creative gold both with practice and purpose resembling the tone and frequency of a pure pitch vibrating in the ears of the of the recipient.

It hasn’t been all easy, but apparently some of conditions that create a flow state are being absorbed by that which you are involved with with a positive effect, in a frame that challenges your skill set. And by these standards I am absolutely consumed.

As we flow from one calendar to the next, I invite you to come explore with me, in a workshop, a retreat, a training. The longer the container, the greater the transformation. Of this there is no doubt in my mind. And as I move about the globe my observation is that the waves of challenge seem to be becoming bigger. My intention is to meet them with my full capacity and to offer the tools for others to do the same.
